We have been awarded the PLATINUM medal by EcoVadis for our efforts and enthusiasm in fulfilling our environmental and social commitments.

The EcoVadis certification evaluates best practices in various policies, actions and results related to the environment, corporate social responsibility, ethics and the supply chain (sustainable purchasing.) This year, due to the result obtained (80 points and Percentile 99), we are positioned among the top 1% of companies in our sector.

This fantastic result reinforces our work and pushes us to keep improving day by day to become a benchmark for sustainability in the flexible packaging market.

We are excited to share our latest initiative at Plastigaur, where creativity and social responsibility come together to face socio-economic and environmental challenges. In collaboration with the social enterprise @ProyectosExtraordinarios, we have brought to life the Plastigaur Corporate bags and backpacks, a pioneering project that redefines sustainability and social inclusion.

Transforming Waste into Valuable Resources

In our factory, we collect plastic waste, giving new life to 70% of it by incorporating it back into our primary activity. The remaining 30%, which cannot be used conventionally, becomes raw material for our high quality recycled Corporate Bags.

Changing lives trough employment

This project has a double impact: not only contributes to environmental sustainability, it also creates job opportunities for women with difficulties in accessing the labour market in Spain and Africa. We are committed to overcome barriers and empower women in challenging situations.

Our Corporate Bags are not only environmentally friendly as they are made from recycled plastic, they are also fully recyclable. We are closing the sustainability circle, demonstrating our commitment to a greener future.

PLASTIGAUR, Innovation is flexible

La entrada PLASTIGAUR ‘THULIN PROJECT’. MANUFACTURING RECYCLED AND RECYCLABLE BAGS AND BACKPACKS FROM WASTE GENERATED IN THE FACTORY se publicó primero en Plastigaur.

Once the first extruder is at full capacity, we will start to install the second extruder, which is specially designed for post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials.

The two machines are part of the entity’s investment of almost 7 million euros and they will be capable of delivering 12,000 tons per year for our customers.

This significant deployment of equipment is part of the strategic sustainability-focused approach that Plastigaur has been following for over 5 years.

Our plant already has the first of the two new extruders running at full capacity.

In turn, innovation is considered to be one of the cornerstones of the ongoing development of Plastigaur’s range of solutions, so we have invested over €700,000 in R&D for the current year.

We are currently in the process of installing the second production line, which will meet the sustainable packaging needs of our customers.

The new machines allow us to meet the requirements of products from the EKOGAUR sustainable range more efficiently with new secondary packaging (shrink material to form packs and banding systems) with post-consumer recycled (PCR) material.

We are continuing to take further steps towards the ultimate goal of obtaining products that are 100% recyclable and composed of recycled material, innovating our products and processes to achieve this and working closely with suppliers and customers with production methods based on eco-designs and the circular economy. We also adhere to this principle internally, only using energy from renewable sources in our production system, committed to reducing the amount of energy and water that we consume every year, taking part in OCS (Operation Clean Sweep) programmes and implementing best practices with regard to CSR in our relations with suppliers, for which we have received the highest recognition (Ecovadis Platinum).

LUIS ARTOLA (CEO) and XABIER NOGUERA (Commercial and Marketing Director of Plastigaur) attended DOW’s 125th anniversary ceremony.

At the event, entitled PATH2ZERO, we learnt about the company’s innovative and sustainable history and the sustainable packaging projects helping to achieve a net zero impact on the environment.

One example of this is the REVOLOOP secondary packaging, which was extruded by Plastigaur. It contains 50% recycled material (PCR) and 100% recyclable PE and it is extremely thin to help reduce CO2.

We are currently in the process of installing the first of the two new production lines that will respond to our customers’ needs in terms of sustainable packaging. Roughly €7 million has been invested in the machinery as part of Plastigaur’s Strategic Plan, a plan in which sustainability plays a central role.

The new machines will make it possible for us to grow our EKOGAUR sustainable range of products with new secondary packaging (shrink-wrapping material for shaping packs and banding systems) and post-consumer recycled (PCR) material.

We continue to advance toward our ultimate goal of achieving 100% recyclable products and products made from recycled material by innovating with our products and processes, working closely with suppliers and customers with production methods based on eco-design and the circular economy. This is evidence by our additional investment of over €700,000 in R&D.

With this first installation, slated to be fully operational by September, our production capacity will increase by 6,000 tonnes per year, doubling to 12,000 tonnes once the second extruder is installed.

Installation of the new extruders specialised in post-consumer recycled material has begun.

Plastigaur is one of the “Companies committed to net zero and transformative action” which is included in the 2022 Climate Yearbook. This is the third instalment of a report produced by ECODES and the United Nations Global Compact in Spain, which examines the presence and progress made by the private sector in major global climate action initiatives.

In this year’s report, Plastigaur reflects on how we proactively implement sustainability as a core element across all of our activities. Therefore, in line with the climate ambition of 1.5ºC, we have converted our linear economic model into a circular one to reduce the amount of waste and GHG emissions we produce by 50% for scopes 1 and 2 by 2030.

La entrada PLASTIGAUR IN THE 2022 CLIMATE YEARBOOK se publicó primero en Plastigaur.

Plastigaur has joined forces with Gerosa Group and Synchropack to develop fully recyclable flow pack packaging.

Thanks to the strong commitment made by our three companies to develop sustainable packaging and work together on innovation and technical development, today we are presenting this mono-material (full PE) primary packaging. This material was developed with MDO technology which, using preheating, orientation, stabilisation and cooling processes, replaces multi-material structures, which are currently extremely difficult to recycle.

Plastigaur has invested heavily in technology, thus providing:

• An ECO-FRIENDLY and sustainable solution. PE films that are laminated with MDO technology are designed to be fully recyclable.
• An EFFECTIVE solution. It allows us to print out and produce packaging with an excellent moisture barrier.
• It allows the product to be protected with the smallest possible environmental impact.

PLASTIGAUR has been awarded by ADEGI in the 1st Edition of the ADEGI Award to the Sustainable Development company, within the framework of its General Assembly.

This recognition rewards the company’s work in its commitment to a change of economic model related to sustainability in its 3 features: economic, social, and environmental.

The award has been received by the Director General Luis Artola, together with Andrea Sanchez as Responsible for Sustainability and Mikel Atxega, previous member of the area and currently Responsible for Continuous Improvement.

When Luis collected the award, he thanked the enormous effort made by all the members of the company to adapt to this new scenario and the Gipuzkoa business Association for making visible the work of Plastigaur.

PLASTIGAUR is updating, for the fourth year in a row, the MORE seal, which gives visibility to processors who choose to incorporate recycled materials into their products.

This label, created in 2019 by ANAIP (Spanish Association of Plastics Industry) is linked to the MORE platform, a digital tool also launched in 2019 by EuPC (European Plastics Converters).

From PLASTIGAUR we understand that it is a great tool to confirm the increase in the use of recycled materials and promote good practices as a company committed to the Circular Economy.

We also support, as a way to guarantee to our clients and society a whole real commitment with sustainability, those actions aimed at certifying our corporate actions by independent third parties.

Plastigaur has been awarded the EcoVadis Platinum medal, the international certification system’s highest category for Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainable procurement. The Platinum medal was awarded after we reached the 99^th percentile, i.e. we entered the TOP 1% best-performing companies in the sector worldwide.

EcoVadis allocates a score of between 0 and 100 for the quality of each entity’s CSR management system, in relation to the environment, labour practices, fair business practices and sustainable procurement. EcoVadis is also the world’s most trusted provider of corporate sustainability ratings.

After being awarded the gold medal for 3 consecutive years and scoring above 70 points, Plastigaur’s efforts in Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability have been recognised with the PLATINUM medal, taking us one step further and placing us among the top 1% best-performing companies in the sector.

In a challenging environment for the flexible plastic film packaging sector, this certification has spurred us on to continue with our strategic commitment to improving the company’s environmental and social practices, to forging close ties with suppliers and to offering the best service to our customers, thus allowing us to have a positive impact on global supply chains.

PLASTIGAUR has participated in ECOVADIS since 2013, aligning our goals with those of this platform and serving to illustrate the path we are following in CSR.
